Who’s afraid of happiness?

September 4, 2008

I know I can’t be the only person who’s afraid of happiness.

I sometimes wonder if, being creatures of want and desire, we just aren’t meant to be happy. Conversely, the evolutionary advantage to greed and lust is obvious: seek out those things that will keep you alive and propagate the species. If we walked around happy all the time, well, we wouldn’t have the drive to do much of anything. Society would fall apart pretty fast.

Oh my — I think I just answered my own question.

Ah, to be a happy pig.
